Strictly Come Dancing fans have issued the same complaint about one routine type in the competition, demanding show bosses make a change. The criticism follows Cach Mercer's Couple's Choice routine with professional partner Maddie Ingoldsby during week three of the BBC One dance contest.
Week three performances and leaderboard
The show aired on Saturday (October 10), with the remaining 14 couples competing after the first elimination of the series during last weekend's Movie Week special. Delta Doodre and her professional partner Kai Widdrington topped the leaderboard for a second consecutive week.
At the other end, Gavin and Stacey actress Melanie Walters performed a Charleston with partner Aljaz Skorjanec. Craig Revel Horwood said he loved the dance style but told the actress it "wasn't your thing". They received 17 points from the judges, keeping them off the bottom. Former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and partner Alexis Warr finished last with 15 points for their quickstep.
Fans criticise Couple's Choice format
Viewers took to social media to complain about the Couple's Choice style, noting that social media star John Nellis and pro Katya Jones had performed the same dance style the previous weekend. One fan, @LikeATattoooooo, suggested: "Couple’s Choice should be one week near the final, it’s basically a showcase and doing it in week 3 is just pointless. They’re not good enough at that stage to showcase something original. #Strictly."
@70sStreetFan replied: "I always feel that they should have one week, a bit later in the run, where it’s couples choice week. Otherwise it gives unfair advantage to some couples, as it’s usually a particularly high scoring dance for most. And much better to get later on, when the competition is tougher."
Calls to scrap or alter the dance
@Ginger_Ninja27 echoed: "All couples choice should be in the same week #strictly." However, @nathan_co_uk argued: "#Strictly they need to do away with the Couple’s Choice. it’s so unstructured and never scored fairly against the other dances. bring back Dance Fusion!!!!" @suzicarrigan also shared: "I wish they’d get rid of Couple’s Choice! #Strictly." @bettyredondo added: "The Couples Choice 'dance' is the ONE thing they SHOULD have changed on #Strictly - but have kept!"
