Siegfried's love future teased by Samuel West in All Creatures

Samuel West has hinted at a brighter romantic future for Siegfried Farnon in the upcoming seventh season of All Creatures Great and Small, suggesting the Yorkshire vet may finally be in love.

Speaking ahead of the new series, West confirmed that Siegfried is in a happier place than he has been for many years, with romance potentially blossoming with Dorothy, played by Maimie McCoy. The pair were last seen kissing under the mistletoe at The Drovers during the 2025 Christmas special.

West teases Siegfried's happiness

“I start series 7 probably in a happier place than I’ve been for many years. There's a brilliant, attractive, clever, funny, stylish woman who looks at me with regard and possibly even love,” West said.

He added: “She’s been out of my life for five years, and not through any fault of my own, unusually with Siegfried, who has upset a few in the past. I mean, I like her so much when she says she doesn't like Gilbert and Sullivan, I just go, oh, that’s interesting. So it must be love.”

Working with Maimie McCoy

West praised his co-star, saying: “Working with Maimie is extraordinary. I loved it five years ago, and it feels like she’s hardly been away. I think we all felt that, actually. She’s been a wonderful, wonderful addition, and it’s a sign of possible happiness on the horizon, which is rare for me.”

He also teased that Siegfried’s realisation of his feelings may take time: “It sometimes takes a long time, and possibly a series or two, for him to discover how he feels. And I think that principle is played out in a lot of interesting details in series seven. I’m not going to say any more than that.”

Season 7 details

The new series, launching Thursday, September 17 at 9pm on 5, will consist of six episodes plus a special. Returning cast members include Nicholas Ralph as James Herriot, Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall, Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon, Rachel Shenton as Helen Herriot, and Callum Woodhouse as Tristan Farnon.

Caolan McCarthy will play newly arrived rival vet Granville Bennett, joined by a host of new guest characters. The series synopsis sets the scene: “Series seven of All Creatures Great and Small returns viewers to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in 1946. With the war finally over, Skeldale House is full once again and livelier than ever as our beloved characters reunite under one roof and look ahead to a hopeful new chapter.”
