Saturday Kitchen presenter apologises after guest swears live

Matt Tebbutt apologised during Saturday Kitchen after a guest swore live on air moments into the show. The BBC One presenter welcomed Ben Lippett, Adam Byatt, Carmen O'Neal and Alan Cumming to the programme.

As Matt greeted viewers, microphones picked up Alan Cumming telling a co-star: "F**k nobody heard him," just as the cameras turned on before the opening credits.

Viewers react to the expletive

TV critic Scott Bryan shared a clip on social media, writing: "Well that's one way to start Saturday Kitchen." Other viewers noted Matt's mid-show apology for the "fruity language".

One person said: "Hahaha amazing. He did apologize mid-show." Another laughed: "Fruity language? Where? I love a bit of fruity language on a Saturday morning."

One viewer wrote on X: "Me hitting 'watch from start' to find 'fruity language'." Another explained: "Ok so the fruity language was Alan saying, 'thank f**k nobody heard him' as Matt did the intro before opening credits."

Matt Tebbutt's Saturday Kitchen tenure

Matt has fronted Saturday Kitchen since 2017, succeeding James Martin. He previously appeared as a regular guest presenter, making his first appearance in 2009.

He has previously spoken about the show's future, admitting: "It's going to stop at some point. I'm going to have to do something." Asked about returning to the restaurant industry, he added: "Never say never. Maybe that's the time to do it."

He also shared: "We sort of carry on making the best show we can, people still love it, they're still watching it, in their millions fortunately. So it's still got a huge place but I think going forward, TV in general will have to address how it's viewed."

Saturday Kitchen airs from 9am on BBC One and iPlayer.
