Sara Cox Admits First Marriage Was a 'Disaster' While Promoting Charity Run
Sara Cox calls first marriage a 'disaster'

BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox has made a strikingly honest admission about her personal life, describing her first marriage as a 'disaster' while also detailing her incredible fundraising efforts for Children in Need.

A Candid Look Back at Two Weddings

In a recent interview, Cox reflected on her two very different wedding days. Her first marriage was to DJ Jon Carter in 2001. The couple initially had a low-key ceremony at Finsbury Register Office in North London, followed by a formal event in Ireland five months later.

However, the union was not to last, and the pair separated by 2005. Two years later, Cox found love again with marketing executive Ben Cyzer. The couple tied the knot in 2013 at The Langham in London.

Cox contrasted her two wedding dresses, a symbolic representation of her different states of mind. For her first wedding, she felt 'trussed up in a dress that wasn't really me'. For her second, she chose a 1950s-style, knee-length dress with a lace top that made her feel comfortable and truly herself.

The Great Northern Marathon Challenge

Now 50, Sara Cox is channelling her energy into a monumental physical endeavour. She is currently undertaking The Great Northern Marathon Challenge, a 135-mile run from Kielder Forest on the Scottish borders to Pudsey in Leeds.

This five-day trek is Radio 2's most ambitious fundraising effort to date for Children in Need. Before starting, Cox admitted she was 'honoured and horrified in equal measure' by the challenge of hills, moors, and blisters.

Her efforts have been hugely successful, raising more than £6 million for the charity. The challenge has even garnered royal support, with Prince William sending a video message of encouragement, praising her for doing 'fantastically well' and stating that 'the nation's so proud of you'.

Life and Family Today

Sara Cox is now a proud mother of three. She shares her two youngest children, Isaac and Renee, with her husband Ben Cyzer. Her eldest daughter, Lola, is from her first marriage.

The broadcaster's story is one of personal and professional fulfilment, balancing family life with a demanding career and incredible charitable commitments. The Children in Need broadcast, which her run supports, will air on BBC One at 7pm.
