In a dramatic shake-up for British reality television, The Real Housewives of London is reportedly being lined up for a merger with its northern counterpart, The Real Housewives of Cheshire, after just a single season.
A Surprise Crossover in the Making
According to sources speaking to The Sun, the two separate series could soon become a single crossover show, uniting the glamorous ensembles from the capital and the north. This ambitious project is said to be in its early stages of development by the production company that oversees both popular franchises.
The Real Housewives of London made its debut on the streaming service Hayu earlier this year, quickly establishing itself as the second UK-based series following the long-running ITVBe success, The Real Housewives of Cheshire. The London edition introduced audiences to the opulent lives of Juliet Angus, Amanda Cronin, Karen Loderick-Peace, Juliet Mayhew, Panthea Parker, and Nessie Welschinger.
Why a Merger Makes Sense
A source close to the production explained the logic behind the potential merger, stating, “Hardcore reality fans aren’t welded to one particular Housewives franchise and love the mess, drama and glamour the whole brand represents.”
They added, “In real life, many of the cast of Cheshire and London know each other casually and it would be so easy for the northern ladies to attend an event featured on London or vice versa. It’s a fun idea that is in its infancy.”
This news follows the explosive reunion episode of the London series, which was hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan. At the time, Ryan was heavily pregnant and even joked that the on-screen confrontations were so intense they sent her into labour.
The Legacy of the Real Housewives Franchise
Reflecting on the reunion, Ryan revealed, “It was really explosive. These women did not hold back... There were a lot of tears. There was screaming. Production had to come out. I have toddlers at home and I can usually de-escalate any problems they have but with the housewives there were a few arguments that were so bad that I just had to sit and wait for production to come in and deal with it.”
The beloved global franchise first began with The Real Housewives of Orange County in 2006 and has since expanded to numerous cities including New York, Atlanta, and Beverly Hills. Alongside the two UK shows, there have been multiple international spin-offs set in locations such as Australia, Dubai, and Canada.
The entire first season of The Real Housewives of London is available to stream now on Hayu.
