Singer and television personality Peter Andre has opened up about the crucial guidance he gives his famous children regarding television appearances, as his eldest kids express a strong desire to enter the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! jungle.
The Next Generation's Jungle Ambition
Andre's children, Junior, 20, and Princess, 18, whom he shares with ex-wife Katie Price, have publicly put their names forward for the hit ITV survival show. The siblings made the revelation during an appearance at ITV's Palooza event, teasing a potential joint stint on the programme.
"It's in our DNA a little bit," Junior told Good Morning Britain. Princess elaborated on their unique connection to the series, stating, "We are the first born from there. Mum and dad met on the show and had us." Despite admitting she would be "petrified for my life," Princess confirmed her interest, with one major condition: she would only participate alongside her brother.
She emphasised their pact, saying, "Personally, I would not go on it without you. I feel like that's something we've always said we'd do together. I wouldn't do it without him and he wouldn't do it without me."
Peter Andre's Verdict and Parental Advice
Weighing in on his children's ambitions, Peter Andre gave a thoughtful response. The 52-year-old musician said it would be "great" to see them on the show, acknowledging that as adults, "they can do what they like."
However, he revealed the key piece of advice he has consistently given them over the years. "I always used to say, 'I'd rather you think about presenting a show rather than being a contestant,'" Andre shared. He made a notable exception for I'm A Celebrity, however, believing they would excel as contestants on that particular programme.
Reflecting on the show's unique format, he added, "It brings a lot out of you. It's just you - there's no phones. My daughter without a phone! We didn't have that back then." This comments highlights how the reality TV landscape has evolved since his own iconic stint in 2004.
Family Dynamics and Public Feud
The discussion around the children's television careers unfolds against the backdrop of a long-standing public feud between Peter Andre and Katie Price, which has persisted for 16 years since their split. The couple's own romance famously began in the I'm A Celebrity jungle in 2004, leading to their marriage the following year.
The tension resurfaced recently when Katie Price appeared to take a swipe at Andre on her podcast, The Katie Price Show. Speaking with her sister Sophie, she expressed frustration about her role in the children's decisions. "If you've got someone dictating what your kids do and they won't give you a say, it's like taking your mother's instinct. Your mother's right," she stated.
Price emotionally added, "It does hurt my feelings because I am their mother and I will also be their mother, regardless. People who make money off them will come and go, yet your mother will be there forever."
This familial complexity has reportedly influenced professional decisions. Earlier this week, it emerged that Peter and his wife, Emily, had pulled out of filming Princess's own ITV reality show. A source suggested this was to prevent Princess from feeling caught between her parents, especially after Katie claimed she was 'banned' from filming.
The insider explained, "No one wants Princess to feel caught between her two parents, so Pete has taken a massive step back, which he hopes will resolve many of the issues. Everyone just wants the best for Princess, and the show is her series after all, now she's 18, she can stand on her own two feet."
As the next generation of the Andre-Price family considers their media careers, they navigate both their famous legacy and the complicated dynamics between their parents, all under the watchful eye of the British public.
