In a stunning revelation that has captivated reality TV fans, actor Nick Mohammed has finally disclosed his reasoning for the dramatic banishment of former rugby player Joe Marler from BBC's The Celebrity Traitors.
The Shocking Banishment Moment
The incident, which became one of the most talked-about moments of the series, saw Mohammed turn on his ally during the final banishment ceremony. What made this particularly surprising was that the pair had previously formed a successful pact to identify traitors Cat Burns and eventual winner Alan Carr.
Mohammed, 45, recently appeared on Marler's own podcast, Joe Marler Will See You Now, to explain his controversial decision. The actor confessed he voted to banish the 35-year-old former England international due to a developing theory about Marler's relationship with fellow contestant Jonathan Ross.
The Pressure Cooker Environment
"There are a few things, what you have to understand is it's an absolute pressure cooker, and so your mind is slightly skewered anyway," Mohammed explained during the podcast interview recorded on Thursday 20 November 2025.
He elaborated on his thought process, revealing: "I was completely wrong, as we all know, as the nation knows, because I knew obviously Jonathan was a traitor at that point. I was like, 'oh, hang on, have you and Jonathan engineered this spat between the two of you?'"
Mohammed described how he began to suspect that Marler and Ross had orchestrated their on-screen disagreement as a strategic move. "You two having a pop at each other, and you were quite instrumental in him going, but I sort of thought, well, maybe that's because you two have almost agreed, he knew he was fighting the firing line, and he was like, why don't you come for me stronger and it'll take heat off you."
The Aftermath and Emotional Impact
The actor admitted his theory developed after the fact, stating: "I didn't think that at the time when it happened, but then a few days after, a week after, (I thought) 'oh, hang on that would be quite good', and then everything becomes confirmation bias."
The emotional weight of his decision was brought home when Mohammed was played an audio clip of Marler's four-year-old daughter Pixie asking why he had banished her father. His simple response: "aww" conveyed the genuine regret he felt about the situation.
The series concluded with comedian Alan Carr taking home the entire £87,500 prize money, which he generously donated to the children's cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK.
