The Masked Singer has unveiled a major star, with viewers left shocked after the renowned rocker John Lydon, also known as Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, was revealed as the Yak. The 69-year-old performed Olivia Newton-John's 'Physical' before unmasking on Saturday night's episode.
Lydon explained his decision to participate: 'Rather than going up there and doing sing-along and guessing who I am straight away, I thought, let's show the other side of me - an absolute fun-star.' Viewers expressed disbelief on social media, with one commenting: 'What a reveal I didn’t get that right I’m genuinely shocked.'
This is not Lydon's first appearance on the show; he was previously unmasked as the Jester on season six of The Masked Singer US in 2021. He revealed that his motivation for taking part was his wife Nora Foster, who was battling Alzheimer's at the time. Nora sadly passed away in April 2023.
Season seven of ITV's The Masked Singer premiered on 3 January, with judges Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Maya Jama and Mo Gilligan. So far, singer Anne-Marie and actor and comedian Matt Lucas have also been unmasked.
