Married at First Sight UK star Julia-Ruth has issued a statement following the revelation that she got a matching tattoo with groom Joe, who was originally matched with Maeve before quitting the show early. The news emerged during the first half of the reunion special, which aired on November 13.
Co-star Dean revealed to the group that Julia-Ruth and Joe had received matching ink reading 'Why not?' while on holiday together after leaving the show. Joe was absent from the reunion and has not publicly confirmed the tattoo.
The revelation led to a tense exchange at the final dinner party, with Maeve pressing Julia-Ruth about whether she would have pursued Joe if her relationship with Divarni had not soured. Julia-Ruth was reduced to tears, describing the grilling as 'a lot'.
In an Instagram statement, Julia-Ruth listed reasons 'why not', including 'why not apply for MAFS UK' and 'why not hope you find love', concluding: 'Here's to permanent ink, permanent mistakes and permanently showing up and owning it.' She added: 'Who's ready for one more boxing match tomorrow? Have you at least been entertained by my trainwreck love life? I b****y hope so.'
Joe, meanwhile, shared a cryptic video on Instagram Stories of a man saying: 'Whatever you do you're going to be judged.' He previously criticised the show, claiming he left after realising 'the true nature of the experiment' and that 'some people will lie, deceive and tread on others to get where they want to be'.
The reunion special continues tonight at 9pm on E4.
