Love Island: All Stars has sparked a major backlash from its dedicated fanbase, with viewers taking to social media to express their frustration over the latest twist. The uproar began during Sunday night's episode as three new bombshells entered the South African villa, all of whom are familiar faces from past series.
Fans Demand Rule Change Over Villa Returns
The arrival of Samie Elishi, Konnor Ewudzi, and AJ Bunker for another shot at romance proved controversial. Many fans argued that contestants should not be permitted to return to the All Stars villa more than once. Samie Elishi, a finalist from the 2023 series who also had a brief stint in the 2025 All Stars edition, is now on her third Love Island journey.
One disgruntled viewer voiced their opinion on X, formerly Twitter, stating: “Islanders that have already done #AllStars shouldn't be allowed to do it again, I don't want to see Samie again or the other rumoured bombshells coming in”. Another added to the criticism, questioning the logic of the format: “There should be a limit on how many times you can come on this thing how can be come on all stars for a 2nd time the very next year”.
Meet the Returning Bombshells
The trio of returning Islanders each bring their own history with the show. Samie Elishi is the most experienced of the three, having nearly won the 2023 series. AJ Bunker first found fame during the show's seventh series in 2021. Meanwhile, Konnor Ewudzi, a rugby player, made his Love Island debut in 2024 but left without finding a lasting connection.
Their entry follows a turbulent start to the series, which was delayed by several days due to safety concerns over wildfires in South Africa. The show eventually launched on Thursday, January 18th, 2026, in its All Stars format, which brings together former contestants for another attempt at love.
Ratings Hit Record Low Amid Controversy
The controversy over casting comes as the show faces significant challenges in the ratings. According to reports, the delayed launch of Love Island: All Stars attracted just 490,000 overnight viewers on ITV2. A TV social media account, SUPERTV, highlighted that this figure represents one of the show's lowest launch audiences ever, roughly half the viewership of the previous summer's series.
The account posted on X: "RATINGS! #LoveIslandAllStars returned last night after a 3 day delay, which seems to have hurt the show even more as it launched to one of its lowest ratings OF ALL TIME. Just 490k viewers." For context, the show's fifth series once pulled in a record 3.3 million viewers.
However, ITV has pushed back against the narrative that the show is struggling. A spokesperson told The Mirror that the overnight figures do not capture the full picture, as they exclude streaming on ITVX and YouTube. The spokesperson emphasised: "And for context to date we have had over 2 billion streams for the series on ITVX, so it’s very much not representative of the bigger picture."
Despite this defence, the combination of fan discontent over 'repeat' bombshells and the reported low traditional TV ratings suggests Love Island: All Stars is navigating rocky waters as its latest series unfolds.
