Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh has become the latest famous face to leave the BBC show Celebrity Traitors after receiving the most votes at the latest round table. On Friday night (October 9), the group decided which one of them they believed was lying and hiding their Traitor status.
The former Coronation Street star was the third person to get banished from the show, admitting to the group before she left that she had been a Faithful all along. It comes after the group had also sent home another Faithful when they thought Myha'la had been deceiving them.
Early Success and Its Consequences
However, the celebrities did get off to a good start when they successfully found out which star had been lying to them during the first round table when they chose to banish Richard E. Grant, after he slipped up and admitted to being a Traitor earlier on.
When asked what it felt like to get a Traitor out in the first round table, Julie confessed it was 'the best feeling'. She commented, "I cannot begin to tell you how incredible that feeling is. Right up there with marriage and childbirth, haha!"
Shifting Suspicions and Reactions
"And then for Claudia to come in and say that that has never happened in any series of the Traitors ever! But of course, it created this atmosphere of such cockiness and such blood thirstiness; it was a bit of a poisoned chalice ultimately."
BBC viewers have seen suspicions start to rise on certain members of the group, especially Hannah Fry, who was recently recruited to become a Traitor alongside James Acaster and Maya Jama. Although after Julie was banished, suspicions are shifting onto James Blunt, who was adamant Julie was lying to the group.
In the latest episode, King Kenny spoke about his disappointment over getting rid of Julie, as she was one of the celebrities working hard to try to find out who among them was lying. He told Miranda Hart: "You know what's so annoying? We got rid of someone trustworthy. Someone who was going out of their way to hunt people. She was so proactive, and she's gone. That's genuinely our biggest loss."
Viewer Reaction
It wasn't long for people on X to share their thoughts on Julie being banished, as many were left devastated over her early exit. One person said: "I can’t lie I’m actually devastated that Julie got banished-I really wanted to see what else she could do."
Another added: "What a wild episode, I am so sad they all turned on Julie, I feel so sorry for James Blunt, who will be our first isolated contestant." While a fourth shared: "I hope they all feel AWFUL how dare they come for Julie.."
Celebrity Traitors continues on Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One from 9pm.
