Joanne McNally, one of the six comedians taking part in the second series of BBC's The Celebrity Traitors, has opened up about her life away from the castle. The 43-year-old Irish star is among 21 well-known personalities on the show, joining fellow comics James Acaster, Joe Lycett, Miranda Hart, Rob Beckett, and Romesh Ranganathan.
McNally has cautioned audiences that despite her close friendships with many of the other comedians, they are all "more than willing to throw each other under the bus" and will "absolutely kill each other off for the craic". She describes herself as "quietly competitive", hoping to be chosen as a Traitor and believing she excels at detecting deception.
Career and podcast success
Joanne grew up with her adoptive family in Killiney, County Dublin, and previously co-hosted Republic of Telly for RTÉ. She has also appeared on The Late Late Show, The Afternoon Show, Ireland AM, Two Tube, and The Commute for RTÉ. Alongside her RTÉ 2fm segments, she co-hosts a podcast called My Therapist Ghosted Me with Vogue Williams.
The television personality is thought to be single after ending her two-year relationship with former partner Alan Byrne. During an appearance on Vogue's podcast, she confirmed: "So me and Alan have parted ways" before discussing her work trip to Las Vegas with her newly-single agent Christina.
Relationship details and unique nose feature
She went on to say: "It was a bit of a blowout, we needed it. I wasn't really ar**d [meeting men], but what I will say is I knew she [Christina] was a big hit with men, she does have film star vibes." She added: "But the men were chatting her up and there was a stream of them. I was like 'Dude, I'm sorry I'm here but where am I supposed to go? I'm sorry my face repulses you'."
Joanne first revealed her former boyfriend to listeners of her podcast back in May 2022, giving him the nickname "Prada Peter". She disclosed they had connected on Raya and mentioned neither planned to delete the exclusive celebrity dating app.
Joanne has no cartilage in her nose, meaning she can push it completely flat against her face before moulding it back into position. She displayed this during series 17, episode 8 of Channel 4's Taskmaster UK, bringing a rubber cast of her nose and inviting host Greg Davies to squeeze the real thing.
Viewers who caught the episode took to Reddit to express their reactions. One fan wrote: "This makes me so uncomfortable, especially in a still it looks like she hasn't got a nose at all! Every time I see it I instinctively press on my own nose." Another commented: "This made me jump up in disgust, but I can't stop looking at it." Joanne has discussed her cartilage-free nose in various interviews, pointing out that fellow Irish comedian PJ Gallagher shares the same rare characteristic.
The Celebrity Traitors returns Wednesday, October 1 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
