Dame Helen Mirren has made a confession that may surprise some of her most devoted fans. The 81-year-old actress is reprising her role as the eccentric, trigger-happy mob wife Maeve Harrigan in MobLand season two, and she says she couldn't be happier with the part.
Speaking to the Radio Times, the Oscar winner admitted of the MobLand role: “It just fits me like a glove, and it’s slightly worrying because I hope I’m not remotely like Maeve.” She added that although she does not share Maeve's Machiavellian sensibilities, her penchant for swearing like a sailor, or her appetite for vengeance, she does “absolutely love” playing her.

Mirren also revealed that she has gone home after work and wondered why she felt “so easy” portraying the unusual character. She joked: “There must be some flaw in my character.”
Her comments come as reports circulate about a possible third season of the mafia drama, which would suit Mirren given her affection for Maeve. Fans will have to wait to see whether the show gets the green light for another outing, but with anticipation building for the upcoming second season, there could be good news ahead.
MobLand season 2 details
MobLand season two launches on September 18 on Paramount+, with audiences getting another 10 episodes, airing weekly on the streaming platform. Mirren will again star opposite Mamma Mia star Pierce Brosnan as the godfather of North London, Conrad Harrigan, and Tom Hardy as the Harrigans' trusted fixer, Harry Da Souza.
Returning cast members include Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Janet McTeer and Mandeep Dhillon. The new series also welcomes Johnny Flynn and Ophelia Lovibond.
Trailer and plot promises
Paramount+ recently released a full trailer for the upcoming episodes, which promises plenty of betrayal and twists. The new footage showed Maeve and Conrad asserting their authority with a shootout in a restaurant.
The streaming platform also released a synopsis: “In the upcoming season, the Harrigans struggle to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire – and Harry Da Souza, their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer,’ must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify. As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy.”
