Filming has wrapped on the three-part Christmas special of BBC's Pride and Prejudice spin-off The Other Bennet Sister, and the project is now in post-production. TV producer Edoardo Ferretti announced the update on Instagram with a photo of The Other Bennet Sister Special.
Ferretti wrote: “And yet another wrap! Every time emotional, every time proud. This one is going to be so Special!” The news arrives a few months after the BBC confirmed the Christmas special in June.
Cast and Crew Return for Festive Episodes
Screenwriter Sarah Quintrell has penned the scripts for the three 30-minute instalments, based on storylines by author Janice Hadlow, who wrote the original novel. Production returned to Wales this summer, with lead actress Ella Bruccoleri reprising the titular role of Mary Bennet.
Other cast members will also return for the Yuletide episodes. Executive producer Jane Tranter teased: “These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins.”
She added: “Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas.” The series ended with Mary unexpectedly finding love and marrying lawyer Tom Hayward (Dónal Finn).
Next Chapter and Future Adaptations
The new episodes will tell the next chapter of Mary's life after she decided to become a writer and share her experiences in London and at Longbourn with other women. The Other Bennet Sister became a surprise hit when it landed on the BBC earlier this year before going global on BritBox.
It was one of the BBC's biggest dramas in 2026, with 7.3 million viewers watching across all platforms in its first 28 days. The series is also up for National Television Awards, including Best Drama Performance for Bruccoleri and Best New Drama.
BBC executive Lindsay Salt recently teased that it was looking to adapt another Austen story with a twist. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Salt told the Radio Times: “So Janice Hadlow's upcoming book, The Other Elliot sister... a clue, figure out the Austen fans out there in terms of what book that will be based on!”
Salt added: “But I think we found a really fun brand there where we've refreshed period drama for BBC.” The Other Bennet Sister Christmas special will air on BBC One later this year.
