Manchester United are reportedly working on a deal that will see Joshua Zirkzee leave on loan before the end of the transfer window. The striker has failed to make an impact since making a move from Bologna in 2024.
Zirkzee has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford throughout the summer window. It was reported that Fiorentina were closing in on a loan deal, only for Zirkzee to turn down the opportunity, with eyes on a potential move to Juventus.
Negotiations in 'full swing'
Sky Sports Italy reports that United and Juve are in talks over a temporary switch for Zirkzee, with negotiations in 'full swing'. Juventus have tabled a £2.1million loan offer, which would incorporate a £25.6m purchase option at the end of the season.
With United determined to recoup a figure closer to what they originally paid for Zirkzee two years ago, the Red Devils were pushing to raise the buyout clause to approximately £30m.
Move to Juventus falls through
However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, a move to Juventus has fallen through, leaving United scrambling to find another potential destination for the striker.
Zirkzee was an unused substitute in each of United's opening two Premier League fixtures against Hull City and Ipswich Town, and has dropped down the pecking order. Matheus Cunha has established himself as United's first-choice striker so far this term, with Benjamin Sesko deployed from the bench as he continues his return from injury.
Carrick on Zirkzee's prospects
Speaking about Zirkzee's prospects following Sunday's victory over Ipswich, United manager Michael Carrick said: "It's always difficult to say, to be honest, when there's so little time left, but we're always open if there's something else to be able to add."
"I wouldn't shut that down but, as it stands, we'll have to wait and see."
Should Zirkzee stay at United, he could be handed greater first-team chances with the introduction of Champions League football to the fixture list. However, with Marcus Rashford's return to the fold and Shea Lacey's progression into the senior squad, he may find himself restricted to cup outings and substitute appearances.
Juventus, meanwhile, are also exploring a loan move for Nick Woltemade from Newcastle United. The German is available to leave St. James' Park, with Yoane Wissa and William Osula both making impressive starts to the campaign.
