Gogglebox stars Pete and Sophie Sandiford have revealed that they never applied to appear on the Channel 4 show, in their first-ever television interview.
The siblings, from Blackpool, have been part of the Gogglebox family since 2017, joining for series 10. They appeared on Friday's (October 16) episode of This Morning with hosts Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond to discuss their time on the show.
How they got on Gogglebox
When Dermot asked what they remembered from applying and getting the role, Pete admitted: "We didn't apply it, it was really weird." Sophie elaborated: "We did Vogglebox, and then we got asked if we wanted to do Gogglebox so we jumped at the chance."
She added: "We just sort of thought, great, if this lasts a series, what an experience, but now we're coming up to series 20, and we still can't believe it."
Before joining Gogglebox, Pete and Sophie appeared in a series of adverts in 2016, including the TalkTalk campaign "This Stuff Matters". The company spent months talking to families across the country and visited the Sandifords on the Fylde Coast. Mum Julie, Dad Paul, and kids Sophie and Pete, along with their brother and sister Lucy and Harry, and Elvis the dog all featured. For two weeks, the family was filmed nonstop by 17 unmanned cameras to capture "ordinary, everyday moments".
Day jobs revealed
Despite their fame, Pete and Sophie confirmed they still have day jobs. Pete said: "I'm a builder, I've got my own building company with my business partner Tom. This morning I've been working, sorting stuff out, ordering materials and stuff." Sophie also works as a florist.
Gogglebox airs at 9pm on Channel 4. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITVX.
