Celebrity Traitors fans believe they have worked out which contestant will become the first murder victim, and they are convinced it will not be James Acaster. The murder mystery show returned with a new series featuring 19 Faithfuls trying to unmask the two Traitors.
On the evening of October 2, either Amol Rajan or James Acaster will join Richard E Grant and Maya Jama as Traitors, following their selection for recruitment or elimination. Claudia Winkleman launched the ultimate test of trust and betrayal on Thursday, October 1, welcoming 21 famous faces into the contest.
She picked Richard and Maya as her Traitors, with the actor revealing his true nature almost immediately in a major blunder. Ross Kemp's suspicions targeted everyone, while James Blunt's 'bread and butter' revelation caused a stir on social media.
Cliffhanger ending and fan theories
The programme concluded with a cliffhanger, as Richard and Maya lured two celebrities to the church under cover of darkness, plotting to recruit one while murdering the other. Viewers now believe they have cracked what lies ahead.
Fans are certain it will be comedian James who survives the ordeal, suggesting Amol will become the first to leave. This follows a leaked snippet from last month about an incident involving James that is expected to unfold during a Round Table discussion, which has not yet taken place.
It was reported that at one stage during filming James became so distressed that his fellow celebrities and producers intervened. A source told The Sun: "The show is incredibly intense and during one particular scene at the castle, James became very anxious and panicked.
"Some of the other celebrities on the show spoke up and said cameras should stop rolling so he could calm down, and production were in agreement as well. Everyone looks out for each other and there is a proper sense of camaraderie. It was good for James to have a breather, as everyone felt it was for the best."
Viewers react on social media
The break did not affect the outcome of the game, but showed how passionate and tense everyone on set was. After spotting that information, viewers reckon it must indicate James remains in the competition.
One person wrote on X: "It's gonna be James Acaster because of that news story the other day." Another wrote: "Don't we know that something happens to stress James out majorly at some point so Amol has to be the one who gets murdered."
Someone else said they "knew" James gets selected as the Traitor for the same reason, adding: "And there hasn't been a Round Table yet!" Yet another echoed: "This spoils that James is recruited."
James Acaster's love for the show
Others threw their support behind James, with one writing: "I need to see James Acaster's Traitor era like I need air to breathe." Someone else said: "If James Acaster has gone already I'll be gutted."
Prior to the series going to air, James revealed how much of a devotee he was of the programme. He said: "I just love it. I'm a huge fan and have been since series one. I instantly got addicted to it when I started watching.
"I think I started watching it halfway through the first series, so I was catching up on iPlayer. I did all of it in one night and then got really frustrated that I had to wait for all the other episodes. And then I really loved the first Celebrity series and instantly became jealous that I wasn't doing it. I had to get in here!"
When questioned about his chances of victory, he responded: "I have genuinely no idea at all. Because every time I watch any of the series there seems to be no rhyme or reason. People can be really quiet, and they make it to the end. People are huge characters, and they make it to the end.
"You can be quiet and go under the radar; you can be a big character and end up putting yourself in the firing line. Anyone could get to the end. You can avoid murder or banishment by simply not being respected enough to be seen as a threat. And I think I could very easily be seen as not a threat. Yeah, I could be there to the end. It's anyone's game really."
The Celebrity Traitors continues on Friday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
