Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) is staying in Emmerdale after her scheme to swindle thousands from Jimmy (Nick Miles) failed, thanks to Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Sadie returned to the village last month after two decades away, claiming she had been seeing Jimmy for three years behind his wife Nicola's (Nicola Wheeler) back. On the day of Jimmy's funeral, she was exposed as a pariah to all attendees. With her alliance with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) in ruins, she had nothing and no one, and resolved to leave the village for good—until Joe crossed her path.
Joe's downward spiral and Sadie's new alliance
Still grieving the loss of Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), Joe has been on a downward spiral for weeks, worrying Kim (Claire King). After he nearly drove while under the influence of alcohol, Kim gave him a pep talk, and DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) foiled his attempt to drive. Kim remained concerned, and with good reason: Joe sought help from Sadie to take revenge on all those he blames for Dawn's fate.
Mystery letters and a new plot
Monday's episode (October 12) sees mystery letters delivered around the village. Joe disregards his, while Nicola knows exactly who hers is from and bins it immediately. Joe is later seen with a briefcase as a new plot unfolds. Sadie seeks out Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) and urges her to listen. Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) spots Sadie and gives her a telling off, but Ruby is sympathetic when Sadie explains her past abusive relationship. Ruby is reeled in, and Sadie grins, delighted to have won her over.
Kim's encounter with police and Vinny's court day
Kim is pulled over by police, but DS Ramsden lets her go, shocking Kim. Thea is pleased, telling Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) that she has made Kim think she has her back. Serena is unnerved, worried about how far Thea will go to get what she wants. Ramsden will stop at nothing.
Elsewhere, Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) receives comfort from Mandy (Lisa Riley) and Paddy (Dominic Brunt), who assure him he'll be home soon. Vinny isn't optimistic and says his goodbyes as he prepares for court. Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) reminds him of their previous conversation. It has been confirmed that Vinny will leave Emmerdale, but how the court date pans out remains to be seen.
Emmerdale airs these scenes Monday, October 12 at 8pm on ITV1 or streams from 7am on ITVX or YouTube.
