Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) is determined to get through to Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) in Emmerdale, and he's willing to use Joe's grief to his advantage if that's what it takes. With a video of the late Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) at his disposal, Graham may have finally found a way to reach him.
Joe's grief after Dawn's death
Joe's partner Dawn died after giving birth to their son. Prior to the labour, the couple became trapped in the wedding marquee wreckage after Jimmy King (Nick Miles) crashed his car through the tent. In the hospital, Dawn went into early labour as a result of what she went through. She then died in her sleep, leaving Joe absolutely broken.
Amid the grief and overwhelming sadness, Joe has struggled to connect with his baby son, who is still lying in an incubator without a name. Whenever Joe thinks of the little tot or, on the odd occasion, visits him, he is reminded that the baby came into this world hours before Dawn died. Joe doesn't want anything to do with his baby, a decision that Graham and Kim Tate (Claire King) know he will live to regret.
Graham's plan with the video
With Graham determined to help Joe, this new Emmerdale teaser video shows the moment he tries to use an old video of Dawn to his advantage. At Home Farm, Joe is asleep on the sofa after more drinking. As Graham enters, he places a laptop beside Joe, and plays footage of Dawn. Dawn is talking about how Joe will be the best dad in the world once their baby is born. The clip doesn't go on for long, however, as Joe slams the laptop shut.
Graham reflects on how excited Dawn and Joe both were at the prospect of welcoming their baby into the world. He states that if Joe turns his back on his son, he's also turning his back on Dawn.
What happens next
Sadly, Graham's efforts in this clip won't be enough, as we know that he will eventually tell Joe that if the baby is adopted, he'll leave Joe's life forever.
In the week, Joe and Graham return to Home Farm with baby Tate in tow, but a hopeful Kim then learns that Joe has only brought the tot home so she can say goodbye. Reminded of her own experiences with putting a child up for adoption, Kim begs Joe to rethink things, and is then dealt another blow when Graham announces that he's leaving. Broken and unable to process even more bad news, Kim watches Graham leave with baby Tate.
