Emmerdale viewers are convinced a former character may return following the tragic death of Dawn Taylor.
Dawn (Olivia Bromley) first appeared on the ITV soap in 2018 and quickly became embroiled in numerous major storylines within the village. From battling drug addiction to engaging in sex work, Dawn's journey has been filled with turmoil.
Dawn's final storyline
Most recently, a pregnant Dawn was caught up in a horrific car crash on what should have been her wedding day to fiancé Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Jimmy King (Nick Miles) ploughed his vehicle into the marquee, leaving all three fighting for survival.
Tragically, Jimmy lost his life, though Joe and Dawn managed to escape. Following her emergency admission to hospital, Dawn went into premature labour, delivering a baby boy several months ahead of schedule.
Fans speculate on a return
Heartbreakingly, during Sunday's episode (August 30), Dawn succumbed to a massive haemorrhage which triggered cardiac arrest. Fans now believe a previous resident might return for Dawn's funeral.
On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, speculation has mounted regarding the potential comeback of her mother Rose (Christine Tremarco), reports the Daily Star.
Audiences will remember Rose arrived in the Dales during April 2024, stirring up considerable trouble. Beyond attempting to sabotage Kim Tate's (Claire King) marriage, she subsequently vanished and was thought to be dead. Ultimately, she departed the village in August 2024 to start afresh overseas.
"Maybe Dawn's mum will be back for her funeral?" wondered one viewer. Another person suggested: "I'd like that, I liked Rose." A third agreed: "Yeah, I thought that. Get her back!"
Actor's reaction to exit
Before joining Emmerdale, actress Christine Tremarco, who plays Rose, has featured in programmes including Waterloo Road, Casualty and Clink. She also portrayed Manda Miller in the Netflix hit Adolescence, and secured an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.
Meanwhile, discussing her departure with The Mirror, Dawn actress Olivia confessed: "It was the toughest storyline I've done during my time in the soap. I was surprised by how emotional I found it and it was way more emotional than I was expecting.
"I did cry. It is very strange to kill off your character as an actor and in front of your colleagues. But that said, what a gift to be given. Often people leave and just slip off."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
