Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has spoken out about the latest twist for her character, with Bethany Platt revealed to have slept with Kit Green.
As viewers of the ITV soap, filmed in Salford, know, detective Kit hasn’t been acting rationally since his girlfriend, or rather ex, Sarah Platt was imprisoned for the murder of Theo Silverton, despite his efforts to protect her from a life behind bars, before she dumped him as he faced losing his career for her.
Since then, Kit has been seen drinking more and pushing those who care about him away. Fans have also been speculating about what Kit could be hiding following a number of unexplained and missed phone calls in recent weeks.
Bethany's guilt over the encounter
It has also been confirmed that Kit's life is to be shaken by an unexpected breast cancer diagnosis in another hard-hitting health storyline for the long-running show.
During Friday’s (September 4) episode, viewers were left to wonder who Kit seemingly had a romantic encounter with. At the end of the episode, after he was seen at No.8 on a date with Jodie Ramsey, which saw her older sister, and Kit’s former fling, Shona Platt, gatecrash, Kit was seen back at the flat alone, emerging from his bedroom where a wine glass sat abandoned with lipstick marks on it. He stopped the music on a record player before moving to the sofa, hinting at a romantic encounter.
It was then in Monday’s (September 7) Corrie episode that Bethany was revealed to have slept with Kit. Speaking about the twist, Lucy said of Bethany: “I think it was definitely a major mistake and she is feeling incredibly guilty. That guilt is going to weigh on her for quite a while.”
What led to the moment of madness
“There has been a lot going on recently. Bethany has been holding everything together for everyone and trying to look after Harry, while Kit has his own separate issues,” Lucy explained. “They were in the flat together and one thing led to another. It clearly causes many problems between them moving forward. For both of them, it was a massive mistake.”
And things may get more complicated as, in upcoming scenes, Bethany will be seen heading on a date with Ryan Connor. It comes after fans spotted a spark between the two characters last week and suggested they may be revisiting their connection, a number of years after their last dalliance.
“They had a brief relationship about eight years ago before Bethany moved on to Daniel (Osbourne),” Lucy explained. “However, the door to Daniel is firmly closed now. Ryan is a great choice, and I think they work really well together. I also love working with Ryan Prescott, so this is a wonderful storyline for me.”
