Coronation Street viewers believe they've uncovered the identity of Toyah Battersby's secret child in an unexpected DNA twist. Fans of the ITV soap observed a remarkable similarity between Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and youngster Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) when the family gathered at the Bistro this week for Shona's birthday celebration.
Platt family chaos
Recent months have proved tumultuous for Toyah and the Platt household. Toyah's stepson, Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), received a schizophrenia diagnosis earlier this year following the onset of hallucinations. His condition deteriorated when he pushed Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) down the Rovers' staircase, while also confessing to spending upwards of £6,000 of his father Nick's (Ben Price) funds on cryptocurrency.
Meanwhile, Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) has been wreaking havoc at number eight. Recent scenes showed Jodie attempting to push her elder sister, Shona (Julia Goulding), out of the family dynamic. She notably played recordings of infant sounds throughout the house to convince Shona she was experiencing auditory hallucinations.
Jodie's scheme exposed
Rather than confessing, Jodie blamed Shona's stepdaughter, Lily, this week, prompting Shona to check into the Chariot Square Hotel. Tensions reached breaking point when David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Shona joined forces to expose Jodie's animosity towards her sister. Jodie subsequently brandished a firearm at the couple, before being shot in the stomach during a physical struggle with Shona.
In Friday's latest instalment (October 9), currently available on ITVX, David phoned the emergency services to report the shooting incident. Paramedics attended the scene, accompanied by an armed response officer. As Jodie was transported from the property on a stretcher, DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) interrogated David about the shooting. He fabricated his account, claiming that he and Shona had heard the gunshot from outside the property.
Fans spot resemblance
During the Bistro gathering, Jodie took Lily's phone and broadcast infant sounds through the audio system to frame Lily. Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), who was being blackmailed by Jodie, visibly looked on in distress as Lily refuted any involvement.
Discussing their DNA hypothesis on a Facebook fan page, one individual posted: "Is it me or does Lily Platt have a resemblance to a younger Toyah?" Another contributed: "Omg secret daughter?" A third remarked: "I saw the resemblance last night!" Meanwhile, others highlighted Lily's similarity to Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), who departed Weatherfield last year.
Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
