Coronation Street fans have rushed to defend actress Olivia Frances Brown as Jodie Ramsey was seen unleashing horror on the cobbles, having stepped up her plan to take over her sister's life. The ITV soap, filmed in Salford, has seen plenty going on for the Platt family in recent months, including the arrival of Shona's long-lost sister, the birth of Shona and David Platt's poorly daughter Harper, and Sarah Platt being revealed as responsible for abuser Theo Silverton's murder.
It has seemingly left Shona and David unaware of Jodie's behaviour, but her latest antics, which ended in a shooting, have finally made them see sense - or so viewers hope.
Jodie's arrival and escalating plans
Jodie was first seen tied up in a van driven by Emmerdale returnee Graham Foster before she escaped. Corrie cop DC Kit Green gave chase, leading to Jodie being injured and ending up in hospital, where she was revealed as Shona's younger sister, as the pair came face-to-face after years apart. Feeling sorry for her after Shona's frosty reception, David invited Jodie to stay at No.8 Coronation Street, but she has made it clear to viewers that she can't be trusted.
Having previously attempted to get in between Shona and David, Jodie is now ramping up her plans to take over her sister's life. It was recently made clear that Jodie is trying to make Shona and her loved ones think she's suffering from post-natal depression as she struggles with baby Harper. Viewers have also seen her switch her father Doug's psychosis medication when she realised he was onto her, resulting in him being taken back to a secure mental health unit.
The shooting on the cobbles
Thursday's (October 8) edition of Corrie featured the dramatic moment when Jodie proved she will stop at nothing to steal her sister's life. Jodie was seen going all out to seduce David when Shona arrived home, having been given information about Jodie's games by Bethany Platt, but also because David was playing along with her seduction, as he had hidden his phone under a towel, allowing his wife to listen in before she interrupted them.
As David and Shona confronted Jodie, she struggled to worm her way out of her latest plan, especially after David pulled out her trinket box. Backed into a corner, Jodie pulled out a gun, but Shona and David seemed unbothered as she'd previously convinced them the weapon she had was fake. Tackling her sister head-on, a scuffle broke out, and Shona ended up pulling the trigger, and a gunshot rang out. It was soon clear that Jodie had been shot, as she clutched her stomach and fell back onto the sofa. A distressed Shona then attempted to help Jodie as she bled out.
Fans praise Olivia Frances Brown
Despite being keen to see the back of Jodie due to her manipulative games for some time, Corrie fans were keen to show their support for actress Olivia, who has also marked a year since she started filming on the famous Greater Manchester soap. @Izzy1728047 said: "Ok Olivia Francis-Brown. You are absolutely fantastic. Jodie is not a likeable character, but crikey she plays her brilliantly that unhinged behaviour is very well done. She’s a good actress! #Corrie." @SwainsCoat commented: "There's a reason why they've given Olivia Frances Brown another contract... it's because she's phenomenal."
@missmollybruton replied: "Genuinely blows me away how good she is at this side of Jodie!!" @soaps_4_life shared: "I love Olivia but not a fan of Jodie, but unlike others I know the difference between an actor and the character they are playing!" @RyanSoapKing25 added: "As much as I hate Jodie with a passion, that was a great episode of #Corrie today! Olivia Fences Brown plays an unhinged and damaged Jodie so well."
