Celebrity Traitors fans demand BBC twist after spotting 'huge flaw'

BBC viewers have called out a 'huge flaw' in the latest series of The Celebrity Traitors, and they think they know how to fix it. A fresh group of celebrities joined the gameshow earlier this month, hoping to bag the huge £100,000 cash prize for their chosen charity.

Host Claudia Winkleman picked Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant as her first two Traitors at the start of the series, and the duo later chose James Acaster to join the dark side. But Richard's time on the show was cut short when he was banished during the very first roundtable, after accidentally telling a room full of Faithfuls that he was indeed a Traitor.

Traitors unmasked but no reward

The gameshow's villains then recruited Professor Hannah Fry, but she was also unmasked during Thursday's (October 15) roundtable vote. Soon enough, the Traitors had invited Faithful King Kenny to join their crew.

With two Traitors now successfully axed from the show, viewers at home have pointed out a "flaw" in the game. Fans think the game doesn't offer any real benefit to catching Traitors early and they have suggested that Faithfuls should earn a reward for every Traitor they banish to raise the stakes.

Fans call for incentives

Posting to Reddit, one fan explained: "I think the main most frustratingly obvious issue is that banishing a traitor means absolutely nothing.... 'Well done faithfuls! You got one!' for then a new one being recruited before they even hit their bed."

The viewer went on: "Back to square one.. it's become such a weak point that it is so obvious both to players and to the viewers. I'm sure there are ways to fix this.. even if it was a monetary reward added to the prize.. why not add an extra 5k to the pot each time they catch one?!"

The social media post has received almost 600 likes and close to 200 comments, with some viewers agreeing that banishing Traitors doesn't serve any real benefit to the Faithfuls.

Viewers suggest format changes

Viewers over on TikTok and X have shared the same opinion, with one posting: "They need to incentivise removing a traitor.. eg adding more money to the pot, otherwise it’s broken." While others suggested introducing a limit on how frequently the Traitors can recruit a fresh face.

A BBC viewer shared: "One flaw that's really becoming apparent in this series of #CelebrityTraitors is that there really is no incentive to catch them early. A format experiment - what about the traitors get one recruitment over the game rather than every time they lose one?."

The Celebrity Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
