Fans of The Celebrity Traitors believe they have worked out a twist in the game after the latest episode ended without revealing the outcome of the tense murder in plain sight.
Friday night's (October 16) instalment of the BBC hit left viewers unsure whether EastEnders star Ross Kemp or model Jerry Hall had been chosen as the Traitors' latest victim. The episode left the pair's fate unresolved, with fans now facing almost a week before they can find out what happened next.
The Traitors' bizarre task
The cliffhanger came after Traitors Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny were given a bizarre task that involved making one of the Faithful yawn. The trio had to locate a hidden spray, use it in a room and then persuade an unsuspecting Faithful to enter. Once inside, they were expected to bore their chosen target into yawning, all while avoiding raising any suspicions.
To make matters more complicated, the Traitors were also required to ask their victim directly whether they found the conversation boring. As Ross and Jerry made their way into the room, James tried to keep the conversation going while Maya repeatedly yawned in the hope that one of them would copy her.
Fans share their theories
However, just as viewers were waiting to see whether the unusual challenge was successful, the BBC brought the episode to an end without revealing the result. Viewers immediately took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their frustration, with many believing the episode ended in a cliffhanger for one very specific reason.
One fan suspected: "I wonder if no one yawns and so no murder? And that plus two recruitments with no murder means there's more players than there should be maybe? #celebritytraitors." Another stated: "I literally can't imagine a scenario where they get away with the yawning thing not going to lie."
Ross Kemp's fate
Meanwhile another viewer believed one celebrity will seal their own fate, penning: "A theory ... Ross Kemp may yawn.. because he clocks Maya and James A doing it and might think if he DOES NOT YAWN, he will get murdered, inadvertently sealing his own fate, and carrying the identity of the traitors to the grave."
However not everyone is convinced, with one fan suspecting this murder is the one to 'break the game'. They wrote: "Maybe this murder in plain sight is what supposedly broke the game? Because something apparently broke the game and can’t be done again right?" A fifth viewer predicted: "Ok this will happen. 1) Jerry will yawn and she gets murdered 2) Ross will immediately twig and next morning will confront James A and Maya. 3) Kenny won't be mentioned as he wasn’t in the room 4) James A will defend himself better than Maya 5) Maya banished."
