A BBC announcer has apologised to Welsh viewers after tricking them while introducing the latest episode of Celebrity Traitors.
The sixth episode of the current season aired on BBC One Wales at 9pm on Friday but announcer Danny Cowan decided to play a trick on viewers before the programme began. Watchers of the popular show were briefly stumped as Celebrity Traitors was not announced.
Schedule change joke
Instead he claimed there was an alteration to the schedule, saying: "First on BBC One Wales, in a change to what you might have been expecting, it's The Repair Shop." Then after a brief pause he continued: "Just kidding, I wouldn't do that. I'm not a traitor, honest."
Some viewers said they "almost fell for it" while others were completely convinced. One viewer from Wales said: "I literally had a mini panic attack, I was about to change the channel over. You’re such a tease."
Apology on X
Taking to X, he apologised, saying: "Apologies to viewers in the Welsh Wales ... I was just having a wee bit of fun with #CelebrityTraitors #CelebrityTraitorsUK ... Probably in a lot of trouble now, at least you know I'm not AI! Love ya."
The joke was taken lightly as some BBC watchers requested more of the same going forward, even suggesting more funny antics. One viewer suggested: "We loved it. Could do with more of it. Like a graphic violence warning at the start of Antiques Roadshow or Gardeners World."
