Afton McKeith, daughter of I'm A Celebrity star Gillian McKeith, is among the contestants taking part in ITV's new reality series The Summit. The 24-year-old pageant and fitness coach, who competed for Miss England last year, revealed the advice her famous mother gave her ahead of the brutal challenge.
Hosted by This Morning's Ben Shephard, The Summit follows 14 strangers as they attempt to climb a mountain in New Zealand's Southern Alps within 14 days, competing for a share of a £200,000 prize. Along the way, they face treacherous terrain, extreme weather, and challenges set by the mysterious Mountain's Keeper, while also having to eliminate fellow contestants.
Speaking on This Morning, Afton said she went into the show without a game plan and chose not to reveal her mother's identity. However, Gillian McKeith offered advice based on her own experience in the jungle: "Keep your dishes to yourself. We don't like sharing saliva." Afton followed this advice, keeping her dishes separate from others when washing.
Afton admitted she was unprepared for the challenge, arriving in a pink all-in-one outfit and asking producers if she could bring hair straighteners. She described the experience as "completely not what I was expecting," adding that she woke up "freezing, shaking violently from the cold." She also called the Mountain's Keeper "awful" and "terrifying."
The Summit premieres at 9pm tonight (Tuesday, February 10) on ITV1 and ITVX.
