Zoe Ball will present a special Radio 2 show to celebrate the 80th birthday of broadcasting legend Bob Harris. The programme, titled 'Bob Harris At 80: A Life In Music', will air on April 12, the day after his birthday, and will revisit highlights from his remarkable career.
The tribute will feature reflections on Harris's early days at Radio 1 in 1970, his tour with T.Rex, and his iconic work on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. It will also recall his legendary interviews with John Lennon and the Beach Boys. Ball described Harris as a 'much-loved, one-of-a-kind broadcaster' and said she feels 'blessed' to call him a friend.
Harris, known for his velvety voice and quiet delivery, continues to present 'The Country Show' and 'Sounds of the 70s' on Radio 2. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and received an OBE for services to music broadcasting in 2011. Despite his illness, he has said: 'I'm still here, still laughing, still surrounded by love.'
The two-hour special will be available on BBC Sounds from April 9 and broadcast on Radio 2 from 3pm to 5pm on April 12. The show promises to celebrate the life and career of a broadcaster who has been at the heart of music broadcasting for over five decades.
