Tina Daheley, the newsreader on Scott Mills' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, has broken her silence following the presenter's sacking. In an Instagram post, she described the past week as 'incredibly difficult' and said she was recovering from a cold or flu.
Mills was dismissed by the BBC last week after the corporation received 'new information' regarding historical allegations of serious sexual offences. The allegations, which reportedly occurred between 1997 and 2000, were investigated by police from 2016 to 2019 but no charges were brought due to insufficient evidence.
The BBC admitted it knew of the police investigation in 2017 but said it acted decisively upon receiving the new information. Mills has been temporarily replaced by Gary Davies. Daheley, who has been off air simultaneously with Mills, confirmed she will return to the radio on 21 April.
Daheley's post on Instagram featured a photo of a cup of tea, and she wrote: 'Good news is I’m over the worst of it and looking forward to spending 2 weeks with my family over the Easter hols from tomorrow after what’s been an incredibly difficult past week.'
