GB News has suspended presenter Calvin Robinson, making him the third on-air personality to face disciplinary action following a series of controversial remarks. Robinson's suspension comes after he publicly criticised the station's decision to suspend fellow presenter Dan Wootton, claiming that management were 'afraid of Ofcom and the woke mob'.
The controversy began when Laurence Fox made sexist comments about journalist Ava Evans during an interview on Dan Wootton's show. Both Fox and Wootton were subsequently suspended, with Fox expressing his expectation of being sacked. Wootton has since apologised for failing to intervene during the exchange.
GB News chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos told the BBC he was 'appalled' by Fox's comments. Broadcast regulator Ofcom has launched an investigation after receiving over 7,000 complaints about the incident.
In a separate development, GB News has faced criticism for allowing Conservative Party Deputy Chairman Lee Anderson to interview Home Secretary Suella Braverman on his show. Frangopoulos defended the decision, stating that GB News is 'journalism for people' and that such conversations differ from traditional interviews.
GB News presenter Nana Akua condemned Fox's remarks as 'misogynistic nonsense', emphasising that freedom of speech does not excuse sexism or racism. Fox has continued to defend his comments on social media, decrying what he calls 'cancel culture'.
