The young man at the centre of the Huw Edwards scandal, referred to as 'Ryan' in the Channel 5 drama 'Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards', has broken his silence. Now 23, Ryan shared that telling his story has been a cathartic experience, and he has overcome a battle with drugs.
In the drama, Ryan is portrayed as a working-class Welsh teenager who was groomed by Edwards and sent sexually explicit images in exchange for cash. The narrative is based on Ryan's account of events, which Edwards has criticised, claiming he was not consulted.
Ryan said: 'After years of struggle, I have finally overcome my battle with drugs. I refuse to let Huw Edwards or what he did define who I am, or the life I will yet lead. I chose to tell my story now for the first time so that no one who has been silenced feels they are alone. Your truth matters and it deserves to be heard.'
The drama, starring Martin Clunes as Edwards, is based on 12 months of research including first-hand interviews. Edwards, 64, admitted accessing indecent images of children and received a suspended prison sentence in 2024.
