Former Hungarian Bachelor Contestant Identified After Year-Long Canary Islands Investigation

The body discovered in a remote Canary Islands ravine in March 2025 has been officially identified as Annabella Lovas, a former contestant on the Hungarian version of The Bachelor franchise. The identification concludes a complex, year-long investigation by Spanish authorities who struggled to determine the identity of the deceased woman.

Discovery and Initial Investigation Challenges

Lovas, aged 32, was found on March 6, 2025, at Berriel Ravine, a difficult-to-access hiking location on the island of Gran Canaria. According to reports from Spanish newspaper El Periódico, the body was discovered naked from the waist down and without any personal belongings or identification documents, complicating initial identification efforts.

Police chief Pablo Fernandez Sala described the investigation as "hard and intense" in comments to island daily La Provincia. He noted the extreme difficulty of the terrain, stating that "you would have needed to be a professional climber, not just any hiker, to reach the spot" where the body was located.

Breakthrough Through Dental Records and Tattoos

Despite inconclusive autopsy results and DNA evidence, authorities eventually confirmed Lovas's identity through dental records and by matching distinctive tattoos on the body to those known to be on her back and shoulder. The identification came after her family had reported her missing while she was staying at a hotel on the island.

Hungarian newspaper Blikk reported that Lovas had first gone missing in November 2024, when her loved ones lost contact with her for approximately two weeks. During this initial disappearance, she had wiped her social media accounts, adding to the mystery surrounding her whereabouts.

Background and Circumstances

Lovas appeared on the fourth season of A Nagy Ő, the Hungarian adaptation of The Bachelor, in 2021. She was among the cast of women competing for the affection of Olympic canoeist Dávid Tóth. Following her television appearance, Lovas had moved to Gran Canaria after battling cancer, which reportedly affected her mental health.

After being found safe in a hotel during her initial November 2024 disappearance, Lovas was reported missing again by her family shortly afterward. She would not be located again until her body was discovered in March 2025.

Police Theories and Ruled-Out Causes

While authorities have not determined an official cause of death, they have ruled out several possibilities through autopsy findings. Police confirmed that violent death, strangulation, and sexual assault have been eliminated as potential causes.

A police spokesperson told El Periódico that investigators believe "she may have died in another area, either from an accident or suicide, and that the floodwaters swept her to El Berriel." This theory suggests her body may have been transported to the discovery location by natural forces rather than her having died at the site where she was found.

The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding Lovas's death continues as authorities work to reconstruct her final movements and determine what led to her tragic demise in the Canary Islands.
