Former child star Corey Feldman has issued a firm denial through his legal representatives, stating he never claimed his late friend and co-star Corey Haim 'molested' him. This clarification comes in response to a new Apple TV+ documentary that featured comments interpreted as an allegation of sexual assault.
Legal Team Rejects Documentary's Narrative
On Friday, Feldman's legal team told Us Weekly that the actor had no involvement in the production of 'Corey Feldman vs The World'. They asserted the filmmakers obtained footage through 'dishonest means' and created the project without Feldman's knowledge. The team is now investigating the source of the footage and plans to pursue all legal options.
The core of their statement addresses the specific language used. They argue that any report stating Feldman claimed Haim 'molested' him is a 'sensationalised mischaracterisation'. According to them, Feldman's account was that during the 1987 filming of The Lost Boys, Haim, then 16, sought to 'mess around'. Feldman maintains he did not reciprocate these advances and contacted another party on Haim's behalf.
'Mr. Feldman’s statement that Mr. Haim "molested" him was in reference to Mr. Haim’s advances, and not physical molestation,' the legal team claimed. 'Mr. Feldman makes no claim that Corey Haim physically "molested" him.'
Backlash from Haim's Mother
This legal rebuttal follows intense criticism from Corey Haim's mother, Judy Haim. On Thursday, she slammed Feldman in an interview with TMZ, accusing him of trying to 'keep himself relevant'. She vehemently denied the claims, stating her son was 'not into men' and was always accompanied by family on set, including during The Lost Boys.
'There is no way in hell that Corey molested Feldman,' Judy Haim stated. 'Why would they be friends for so long if this happened? It doesn’t add up.' She suggested Feldman was deflecting from his own 'wrongdoings' and is reportedly considering legal action against him.
The Original Documentary Claims
The controversy stems from the Apple TV+ documentary, directed by Marcie Hume, which features an interview with Feldman from late 2017. In it, Feldman, now 54, described an incident where Haim, who died from pneumonia in 2010 at age 38, initiated sexual activity while they were both 16-year-old stars on the set of The Lost Boys.
Feldman recounted Haim saying, 'This is what, you know, what guys in the business do, right? You know, you s*** each other's d****, or you f*** around'. Feldman claimed he felt scared and obliged Haim in an attempt to stop the behaviour, concluding, 'Truth be told, I was being molested by Corey Haim.'
Feldman has long been an outspoken critic of child abuse in Hollywood, alleging both he and Haim were victims. The documentary also revisits Feldman's past allegations against actor Charlie Sheen, which Sheen's representative has previously denied as 'sick, twisted and outlandish'.
The conflicting narratives have created a stark divide, pitting Feldman's legal clarification against the documented footage and the furious defence of Haim's family. With threats of legal action from both sides, this painful chapter from Hollywood's past continues to generate controversy and headlines.
