Taylor Swift has given her personal blessing for one of her hit songs to feature in the new Sydney Sweeney thriller, The Housemaid, with the film's director sharing the exciting news. Paul Feig, the filmmaker behind the project, revealed that Swift approved the use of her 2017 track I Did Something Bad over the movie's end credits after being shown the film.
Director's Delight at Swift's Approval
Speaking at the Hollywood premiere on Monday, the 63-year-old director explained the process to Deadline. "You want to put a Taylor song in your movie, but she and her company have to approve it," Feig stated. He admitted the team had been tentative, believing the pop superstar might not clear the song's usage. "We were tempting with it, and we were like, 'It's so perfect, but she's never gonna clear this.'"
The moment of approval was met with elation. "Then we showed her and her people the movie, and she approved it. So, I guess she likes it. Thank you Taylor!" Feig exclaimed. He later told People that the team's reaction was one of pure joy, adding that one reporter even suggested a dance party during the credits, a sentiment he shared.
Cast Celebration of the Perfect Song Choice
Lead actress Sydney Sweeney, who stars in the film based on Freida McFadden's 2022 novel, was equally thrilled. "It's so perfect," the Euphoria star told People. Her co-star, Amanda Seyfried, recalled watching the film before the song was fully confirmed, saying, "We saw it before it was fully confirmed... We were like, 'We can't lose this! You have to keep this!'"
Seyfried described the electric atmosphere when the song played: "When it came on, we screamed like little girls, and that's the excitement of what Taylor Swift's songs can bring." Sweeney highlighted the unifying power of Swift's music, noting it "brings every generation together, which is so fun."
On-Set Chemistry and Sequel Hopes
The interview also shed light on the close bond formed between Sweeney and Seyfried during filming. They spoke of a 'girls room' on set with a big bed for unwinding, often covered in makeup blood from the thriller's intense scenes. "Amanda and I became sisters. She was the bestest friend ever," Sweeney told Variety, emphasising how their rapport improved their performances.
Looking to the future, Sweeney has voiced strong interest in a potential sequel, driven by her passion for the source material and her character, Millie. "I would love to [reprise the role]... I would be just as happy as everyone else being able to see more Housemaids come to life," she revealed to People, praising her character's 'spicy' and combative nature.
This marks another high-profile soundtrack placement for Swift, whose songs have previously featured in major films like The Hunger Games and Fifty Shades Darker.
