In a touching revelation from her new documentary, global superstar Taylor Swift has shared the romantic letter sent by her now-fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, as she embarked on the final leg of her monumental Eras Tour. The moment is captured in the concluding episodes of her Disney+ series, The End of an Era, released this week.
A Surprise Note Before the Show
The documentary's fifth episode shows the 36-year-old singer in her dressing room in Toronto, Canada, where she is surprised by a handwritten note from Kelce. The letter, read aloud in the film, harks back to the night that started their fairy-tale romance. Kelce wrote that among all the tour's incredible memories, his favourite was seeing her in concert for the first time, 'being mesmerised by a woman who doesn't even know me yet.'
He expressed gratitude to a member of Swift's tour management for ensuring her stop in Kansas City, calling that night 'the beginning of me meeting the love of my life.' The couple's story began in 2023 when Kelce attended her Kansas City show and famously made a friendship bracelet bearing his phone number.
Tour Triumph Amid Personal Turmoil
While the Eras Tour was a historic commercial success, Swift is strikingly candid in the docuseries about the personal difficulties she faced during its run. The tour, which ran from March 2023 to December 2024, featured 149 shows across five continents, grossing over $2 billion to become the highest-grossing tour in history. Yet, Swift reveals her personal life was in stark contrast to her professional highs.
'There were points in this tour when the tour was really the only thing that was really keeping me going in my life,' she admitted. She clarified that she never wanted to quit the tour, stating, 'No, my personal life was hard. I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour.'
Fans believe these comments refer to her splits from long-term partner, British actor Joe Alwyn, and her brief subsequent relationship with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy. She summed up this period with a pointed remark: 'Men will let you down, the Eras Tour never will.'
From Heartbreak to Happily Ever After
Swift credits the tour itself, and writing her album The Tortured Poets Department, with helping her process this 'really rough time.' She described feeling like a 'conglomerate' rather than a person, concluding, 'There's no one for me in the world.'
Ironically, the tour ultimately set the stage for her life-changing connection with Travis Kelce. The documentary details how her mother, Andrea Swift, played a pivotal matchmaking role. After seeing headlines about Kelce's podcast comments, Andrea consulted a cousin who was a Kansas City Chiefs expert and was assured Kelce was 'the nicest guy.'
Andrea then encouraged her daughter to consider meeting him, with Taylor recalling her mother saying, 'You gotta start doing something different.' The couple went public in September 2023 and announced their engagement in August 2024, with Swift joking in the documentary about the unlikely start to their 'most meaningful relationship.'
