Prince's Paisley Park compound in Minnesota is known to house a vast collection of awards and accolades, but it also contains a secret vault with up to 2,000 unreleased tracks, according to those who worked with the late superstar.
Sound engineer Susan Rogers, who joined Prince's team in 1983, confirmed the existence of the vault and revealed it holds a previously unknown song called Moonbeam Levels, which she described as 'beautiful' and one of his finest works. Rogers said she became obsessed with collecting his recordings to preserve his legacy.
Saxophonist Eric Leeds, who collaborated with Prince, said the musician would often jam with others but quickly lose interest after recording a few tracks, leaving the work unpublished. He recalled a 45-minute session for a project called The Flesh that was shelved in the vault after three days.
Prince died on 21 April 2016 at the age of 57. He was found unresponsive in an elevator at his estate and pronounced dead shortly after. The cause of death was later determined to be an accidental fentanyl overdose.
