Kneecap Cleared by Police After Controversial Glastonbury Performance
Kneecap cleared after Glastonbury performance

The Northern Irish rap group Kneecap has been informed that they will face no further police action following their provocative performance at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

The Belfast-based trio, known for their politically charged lyrics and pro-republican stance, had been under investigation after their Pyramid Stage set in June. Authorities had reportedly received complaints about the content of their performance.

Performance Sparks Debate

During their Glastonbury appearance, Kneecap delivered their trademark blend of Irish-language rap and controversial political commentary. The group, consisting of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí, incorporated elements that some viewers found inflammatory.

However, after reviewing the case, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they would be taking no further action against the musicians.

Group Responds to Decision

In a statement, Kneecap welcomed the police decision, saying: "We've always used our music to challenge the status quo and spark important conversations. Today's decision confirms that artistic expression still has a place in our society."

The group, who blend hip-hop with traditional Irish music, have become known for their outspoken views on Northern Irish politics and their advocacy for the Irish language.

Growing Profile

Since forming in 2017, Kneecap has seen their profile rise significantly, with their Glastonbury performance marking a major milestone in their career. Their self-titled debut album recently charted in both the UK and Ireland.

The police decision comes as the group prepares for upcoming tour dates across Europe and North America later this year.
