Joe Swash Reveals Kitchen Disasters and Backs Social Media Ban for Under-16s
Joe Swash on Family Cooking Disasters and Social Media Ban Support

TV personality Joe Swash has candidly admitted to experiencing numerous kitchen disasters while cooking for his family at their Essex home, known as Pickle Cottage. The 44-year-old, who is set to host Channel 4's new series Batch from Scratch: Cooking for Less, shared insights into his domestic life with partner Stacey Solomon and their children.

Family Life and Cooking Mishaps

Joe Swash and Stacey Solomon, who began dating in 2016 after meeting on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, are parents to three young children: Rex, six, Rose, five, and Belle, three. Stacey also has two older sons, Zachary, 17, and Leighton, 13, from previous relationships, while Joe shares an 18-year-old son, Harry, with his ex-fiancée Emma Sophocleous.

In an interview with Woman magazine, Joe revealed that his cooking endeavors at home often lead to chaotic scenes. "Oh there's been lots of disasters," he confessed. "But that's all part and parcel, isn't it? And the good thing is, when you've got kids in the kitchen, it's never your fault."

Encouraging Culinary Independence

Despite the occasional kitchen nightmare, Joe emphasizes the importance of giving his children independence in the culinary realm. He noted that while no single recipe has become a family favorite, he aims to open their minds to diverse foods. "Now my kids will be like, 'Dad, can we make souffle tonight?'" he added, highlighting their growing curiosity.

His co-star on the Channel 4 show, Suzanne Mulholland, humorously pointed out that the real disaster often occurs after Joe finishes cooking, describing him as a "big kid" in the kitchen. "There's always quite a big mess at the bit where you're working," Suzanne remarked, prompting Joe to joke that she "sounds a lot like Stacey."

Support for Social Media Ban

Beyond kitchen tales, Joe Swash has publicly endorsed the UK government's proposed ban on social media for children under 16. This stance is notable given that he and Stacey Solomon have amassed a combined following of eight million on social media platforms.

Speaking to The Mirror, Joe expressed his support for the measure, stating, "I don't want to make anyone do anything they don't want to do. But as a parent, personally, I'd feel a lot safer and a little more peaceful if I knew there was a complete ban on social media for kids."

Global Context and Family Impact

The proposal comes in the wake of Australia becoming the first country to implement such a ban in December 2025, with nations like Italy, Norway, Denmark, France, and Spain considering similar actions. The UK government has launched a consultation to explore banning social media for under-16s.

Joe believes a ban would empower parents and protect children's innocence. "Kids are not kids for long, so let them be kids. They've got a lifetime to be on their phones. For me personally, I don't think it's a bad thing," he explained. He added that his family would welcome the change, as it provides a clear authority for parents. "If I said to my lot, 'Get off now,' they'd be like, 'No no,' but if I said, 'Look, the government said get off or the police are coming round the house,' then that's all I need. I can't see it being bad."

This dual focus on family anecdotes and policy advocacy offers a glimpse into Joe Swash's life as both a devoted parent and a public figure navigating modern challenges.
