Halsey Slams Grammy 'Bribes' and 'Politics' After Snub

Halsey has criticised the Grammy Awards as 'an elusive process' involving 'bribes' and 'knowing the right people', after receiving no nominations for the 2021 ceremony despite a commercially successful year.

The singer, 26, took to Instagram Story to voice her frustration, saying the process is 'not always about the music or quality or culture' but about 'behind the scenes private performances' and 'campaigning through the grapevine'.

Halsey's third studio album, Manic, debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and became the first album to be certified Platinum in the US in 2020. She also defended The Weeknd, whose album After Hours topped the charts but was similarly overlooked.

'@theweeknd deserves better, and Manic did too,' Halsey wrote, adding that she expects her comments will 'blacklist' her from future ceremonies. The Weeknd previously called the nomination process 'corrupt'.

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on 31 January 2021 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
