A Good Morning Britain presenter has sent a heartfelt message to legendary Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler after she was placed into an induced coma in Portugal. Presenters Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway returned to the ITV studio for Friday's (May 8) edition of the programme, delivering the latest news from across the UK and around the world.
Later in the show, Sean Fletcher shared an update on Bonnie Tyler's condition. The 74-year-old singer, best known for her 1983 hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, was rushed to hospital from her home in Portugal last week. She underwent emergency bowel surgery, after which her health reportedly deteriorated.
Fletcher reported, "Bonnie Tyler has been put into an induced coma after her health reportedly deteriorated following emergency bowel surgery." He added, "A spokesman for Bonnie said doctors had put her into the coma to aid her recovery." The presenter then sent a supportive message to the singer, saying, "We wish her best," before handing back to Singh and Garraway.
A spokesman for the singer provided a further update on her health on Thursday (May 7), stating: "Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery." They continued, "We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to."
More than 2,000 people have posted comments under a post on Bonnie Tyler's Facebook page to wish her well, with fans from around the world sending supportive messages. Several famous singers have also sent their support, including Katrina Leskanich, the former lead singer of Katrina and the Waves. "Dearest Bonnie. Make a speedy recovery and come back rocking! We love you," she wrote. Gloria Gaynor added, "Wishing you a swift recovery, Bonnie!"
Bonnie Tyler became an international sensation with Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983. The song has remained beloved worldwide, surpassing 1 billion streams on Spotify. She received Grammy nominations for the song, the album Faster Than the Speed of Night, and the single Here She Comes. Bonnie is also known for representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, finishing 19th with her song Believe in Me.
