Country music legend Dolly Parton has delighted fans by sharing a festive photograph that highlights her remarkable bond and striking resemblance with her younger sister, Rachel Parton George.
A Festive Family Moment
The iconic singer, who will celebrate her 80th birthday in January, posted the heartwarming image to Instagram on December 17. The picture captured the sisters dressed elegantly, showcasing their similar hourglass figures, signature big blonde hair, and beaming smiles. They posed together in a cosy living room adorned with Christmas decorations, holding one of their festive culinary creations.
The holidays are all about coming together in the kitchen, sharing a meal and making memories with the people you love, just like my sister Rachel and I always have, Parton wrote in the caption. She also took the opportunity to promote their collaborative project, adding: Plan your festive feast with our cookbook #GoodLookinCookin!
More Than Just Sisters
The post included a slideshow giving fans a closer look at their holiday spread, featuring a cracker-and-dip appetiser and a plate of perfectly sliced roast beef. Followers were quick to praise the duo, with comments celebrating their beauty and close family ties.
Rachel Parton George, 66, has followed a similar path to her famous sister, beginning her career as an actress and singer. She has since transitioned into writing and now works as an executive within Dolly's extensive business empire. The siblings live near each other in Franklin, Tennessee, though Rachel typically maintains a lower public profile.
Their cookbook, 'Good Lookin' Cookin'', was released in September 2024. At the time of its launch, Dolly expressed her joy in combining two great passions, telling her Instagram followers: I love good cooking, but not as much as I love my sister Rachel. So, getting to combine the two was a joy beyond belief for me.
Looking Ahead with Resilience
The festive post comes after a year of both personal and professional challenges for the 'Jolene' singer. Her reclusive husband, Carl Dean, passed away earlier in the year. Furthermore, in September, Parton announced the postponement of six December concerts from her 'Dolly: Live in Las Vegas' residency due to undisclosed health issues requiring medical procedures.
In a characteristically humorous statement, she reassured fans, joking that it must be time for her 100,000 check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon! She emphasised her commitment to delivering the best possible show for her audience and stated the postponement was temporary.
Despite these hurdles, Parton's spirit remains indefatigable. In a recent interview with People magazine, she brushed off the significance of her upcoming milestone birthday. People say, 'Well, you’re going to be 80 years old.' Well, so what? Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started, she declared, adding her trademark motto: I ain’t got time to get old!
Reflecting on her career while promoting her new book, 'Star Of The Show: My Life On Stage', Parton acknowledged the sacrifices made, including her choice not to have children. I never had children, so at least I didn’t have a guilty feeling. I’m thankful that I got to see my dreams come true, she shared, demonstrating her enduring gratitude and positive outlook.
