Cruz Beckham has spoken for the first time about the emotional moment he broke down in tears during his debut gig, a performance that moved his parents, David and Victoria, to tears. The 21-year-old singer admitted feeling 'embarrassed' after crying on stage while performing his song 'Loneliest Boy', which is widely believed to address the family rift with his older brother Brooklyn.
In a new vlog, Cruz revealed that seeing his brother Romeo, 23, looking emotional during the performance at the Courtyard Theatre in East London in March was the tipping point. 'I saw Romeo's face and I was like, ah, f***. Every part of the song I just wanted to look away and break down and I couldn't - and then having to sing through, crying,' he said. The lyrics include the line: 'Loneliest boy, I hope that you're listening, don't push all your friends away, when we're tryna show you love.'
The footage also shows Victoria Beckham giving Cruz a pep talk the morning after the gig. When Cruz asked if his vocals 'sounded like total crap', she reassured him: 'Not at all. You are entertaining the crowd, you play an instrument, and you're singing - that is a lot. It's really impressive.' She added: 'I know that I am your mum and I have not done this for a long time, but I know your voice.'
The family rift with Brooklyn, 27, was confirmed in January when he wrote on Instagram that he did not want to reconcile. Brooklyn, who lives in Los Angeles with wife Nicola Peltz, did not attend David Beckham's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last week. Hours later, sister Harper, 14, reportedly tried to visit Brooklyn's home but found him and Nicola absent.
