Cruz Beckham has officially stepped into the spotlight, announcing his first major public performance in London with his band, The Breakers. The 20-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham revealed the news after completing a series of unannounced shows across the country, marking a significant step in his pursuit of a music career.
From Secret Gigs to a London Stage
The aspiring musician took to Instagram to share the announcement, posting a montage of his previous performances. Cruz confirmed he has already played 15 secret gigs at small venues around the UK, a strategy to hone his craft away from the intense glare of his family's fame. His caption read: "15 unannounced shows around the UK. Now it may be time to officially invite you to one night of fairly decent music."
He directed fans to await full details for "Cruz Beckham & The Breakers. 1 night in London," with the show announcement promised for the coming Monday. The post was met with enthusiastic support from followers, including a playful comment from his 30-year-old girlfriend, Brazilian-German songwriter Jackie Apostel, who urged him to "play the album."
Collaborations and Controversial Lyrics
Cruz has been working with a team of songwriters to develop his sound, a group that notably includes his girlfriend Jackie. He has also enlisted help from The Kooks frontman, Luke Pritchard. However, his musical direction has raised some eyebrows, particularly with the explicit content of his debut double single EP, Optics / Lick The Toad.
The track Optics, released in October, delves into themes of drugs and sex, with lyrics that reportedly left parents David and Victoria Beckham red-faced. One line states: "Take a thousand selfies in your bed while I trip in mine / I love me some mushrooms and good head and an erotic 69." His second single, Lick The Toad, adopts a less provocative tone, focusing on themes of 'mother nature'.
Family Support and a Private Launch
Despite the edgy content, Cruz has received full-throated support from his famous family. In a bid to keep the focus on his music, the Beckhams recently hosted a private family and friends gig at the former Laylow venue in Notting Hill. The entire clan, minus his older brother Brooklyn, attended to cheer on Cruz and his new band.
It's claimed Sir David booked the entire venue to ensure privacy for the event. The proud father shared a clip of Cruz performing lead guitar and vocals, writing on social media: "Family & friends night with Cruz. We r so proud of you mate we love you and the journey that you are on... Tonight was full of love & a few tears of joy and pride." He signed off with a loving message to his son: "Love you Cruzie."
Cruz's younger sister, Harper, was also on hand to support her brother. This intimate performance marked the first time his immediate family had seen him perform live with The Breakers.
This London show represents a pivotal moment for Cruz, whose first foray into music came at age 11 with the charity single If Every Day Was Christmas in 2016. Now, with a band, a series of secret gigs under his belt, and a controversial new sound, he is poised to make his official public debut on his own terms.
