A group of American friends visiting the city of Bath decided to sample a full English breakfast for the very first time, after being urged to do so by various Brits they had encountered — and they wasted no time delivering their honest verdict.
American Amber Kacherian was exploring the UK alongside her two friends, Blake and Jared, when the trio ventured into Bath to take in everything the city had to offer. While there, they took the plunge and ordered a full English breakfast, quickly issuing a three-word verdict after finding it nothing like they had anticipated.
Amber documented the taste test on Instagram, sharing the experience with her 424,000 followers as they worked their way through the various components of a classic fry-up.
"So today, we are here in the lovely Bath, England, and we are going to try a proper English breakfast," Amber announced at the beginning of the clip, appearing to be seated inside a local cafe or restaurant.
The footage then shifted to show a man named Blake clutching a fork, gazing uncertainly down at his full English breakfast plate, clearly unsure where to begin.
"Alright, Blake is going to try the black pudding," Amber revealed from behind the camera, before capturing Blake's very first bite of the divisive delicacy.
Blake was almost immediately seen grimacing after chewing one bite of the black pudding, letting out a sound of disapproval before taking it out of his mouth and uttering: "What the h*ll?"
"We will not be having any of that," Blake declared, placing the remaining black pudding on a napkin and pushing it to the side of his plate.
The camera then panned to Amber, who revealed she had kicked off her breakfast with a classic pancake drizzled in syrup. Taking a bite, she praised the flavour, noting it was more sweet than the syrup she was accustomed to back in the USA.
"But what I think is really interesting is all the things they have to put on the pancakes," Amber said, gesturing towards an assortment of honey, peanut butter, jam, and Marmite. Viewers in the comments were swift to point out, however, that most of these accompaniments were far more likely intended for toast than pancakes.
Reasoning that it could not possibly be worse than the black pudding, Blake opted to sample the Marmite, spreading a generous layer across a piece of toast. Yet upon tasting it, he immediately pulled a face, declaring it tasted like sadness.
"Certainly not as bad as that," he remarked, gesturing towards the discarded black pudding. He then handed the slice to their other friend Jared to try, who quickly said: "This smells like burnt yeast."
Jared took a bite and similarly grimaced while chewing the Marmite-covered piece of toast, exclaiming: "Oh that's strong."
Next, Amber cheerfully announced: "And of course, it's not a proper English breakfast without some beans on toast." Holding up her slice of white bread topped with beans, she took a bite and was clearly won over, declaring she really liked the combination of beans with the bread.
The group then found themselves puzzled by the bacon, initially mistaking it for ham. Despite it being quite different from the bacon they were accustomed to back home, it proved to be a resounding hit. Meanwhile, Amber was baffled to discover that British yoghurt differed greatly from its American counterpart, likening it more to sour cream — though she enjoyed it all the same.
