AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young has been hospitalised in Buenos Aires after feeling unwell, just days before the legendary Australian rock band's scheduled sold-out concerts in the Argentinian capital. The event's promoter confirmed that Young, aged 69, is undergoing medical tests as a precaution but remains in good spirits and is eagerly anticipating taking the stage.
Medical Tests as a Precaution
According to a statement released on Thursday by the promoter, Stevie Young "was not feeling well. As a precaution, he was admitted to a local hospital, where he is undergoing a full series of tests." The specific causes of his condition have not been disclosed, but a spokesperson emphasised, "Stevie is doing well and in good spirits. He is eagerly looking forward to getting on stage on Monday."
Upcoming Sold-Out Shows
AC/DC is set to perform three sold-out concerts at Buenos Aires' Monumental Stadium, which can accommodate up to 85,000 fans, on 23, 27, and 31 March. The initial date sold out rapidly, leading the band to add two extra shows to meet overwhelming demand. This marks the group's first performance in Argentina since 2009, when nearly 200,000 attendees flocked to their concerts.
Tour Details and Band History
The band arrived in Buenos Aires on Wednesday afternoon after a performance in Santiago, Chile, and is scheduled to continue their Power Up world tour with shows in Mexico City in early April. Stevie Young, the nephew of the band's late founder Malcolm Young, has been AC/DC's guitarist since 2014, stepping in when his uncle retired due to health issues.
The Power Up tour is named after AC/DC's latest album, released in 2020 as a tribute to Malcolm Young, who passed away in 2017 after battling dementia. Malcolm co-founded the band in Sydney, Australia, with his younger brother Angus in 1973. The current lineup features Brian Johnson on vocals, Angus Young on guitar, Stevie Young on rhythm guitar, Matt Laug on drums, and Chris Chaney on bass.
Fans and the music community are closely monitoring Young's health updates, hoping for a swift recovery so he can join his bandmates for the highly anticipated performances in Buenos Aires.
