Vicky Myers to stay in Coronation Street as Lisa forever on one condition

Vicky Myers has indicated she will remain in Coronation Street as Lisa forever, on one condition: the character must never get boring. The actor, who plays DS Lisa Swain, told The Mirror: 'As long as she challenges me, then I’ll stay forever.'

Myers, a regular award winner, said she cannot see a time when she would choose to leave the ITV soap. Her comments will be welcome news for Swarla fans, who have followed the turbulent but moving love story between Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain, played by Alison King.

A journey from detective to family heart

Lisa has evolved from a fierce recurring detective who appeared whenever someone was killed, into a central figure in Weatherfield. Her role has combined her detective skills with insights into her personal life and a connection with Carla. The debut of Lisa’s daughter Betsy, played by Sydney Martin, sealed a family unit that also includes Ryan Connor, played by Ryan Prescott.

For now, all is well in Swarla land. Having overcome several roadblocks, including the return of a former partner, the couple are married and looking to the future. Their next challenge will be against business schemer Idris Nazir, played by Junade Khan, who appears to have his eye on Underworld.

What Vicky wants for Lisa next

Myers expressed interest in exploring Lisa’s family backstory and why she is not in touch with any of them. She said: 'What happened to her as a child, what’s her story, and what was her journey with her sexuality? When did she realise that she was queer? All of these things intrigue me with her. Lisa’s a bit of an enigma. We don’t know everything about her.'

Given the material Coronation Street has to play with, and the appetite of the fanbase for more, it seems Vicky is guaranteed to be sticking around for the foreseeable future. Lisa will be involved in the Underworld storyline and whatever comes beyond.
