Tattoo trends are constantly changing, with some designs growing in popularity while others start to feel repetitive. Tattoo artist Nadine Sophia has shared the styles she hopes to see more of in 2027, urging people to think creatively when choosing their next piece of body art.
From unusual floral designs to mystical creatures and dramatic fairy wings, she believes there are many ways to make tattoos feel fresh and individual. Her predictions follow other tattoo artists revealing the designs they wish customers would stop requesting, claiming certain styles have been done “time and time again”.
Nadine Sophia’s 2027 Predictions
Nadine wants people to branch out from traditional floral tattoos, encouraging them to explore different flowers rather than sticking to familiar choices such as lilies and peonies. She would also love to see more mystical beings, including sirens, mermaids and fairies, explaining these designs can be feminine while still having a mysterious quality.
She highlighted fairy wings as another design she hopes will become more popular, particularly large pieces across the back rather than smaller, delicate designs. Finally, she predicted that larger lettering could become more popular, especially when paired with other designs, such as a tiger. She suggested experimenting with different fonts or colours, including pink lettering, to give text tattoos a more individual feel. Nadine invited her followers to share their thoughts on her predictions in the comments.
Designs Artists Are Tired Of
While Nadine wants to see people experiment with new ideas, other tattoo artists shared designs they believe have become repetitive. One tattooist said he was tired of being asked to ink Arabic script on clients who could not read it. He said on Reddit: “I am seriously getting tired of doing Arabic scripts. None of the clients can read it.”
Another artist listed designs they considered overrated, including “infinity signs, anchors, feathers bursting into birds, nautical stars, owls, sugar skulls, massive blocks of text, and tiny abstract lines of Helvetica font poetry”. Feathers transforming into bird silhouettes and dandelions turning into birds were also singled out as particularly common choices. “I did two last week and have one to do tomorrow - not to mention the four I've already done in the past six months,” one artist said. “The problem is people see them all over Pinterest and the internet and fall in love with them thinking they are artsy and hip.”
Artists Who Welcome Popular Designs
However, not everyone agreed that popular designs were a problem. One tattooist said they were happy to create tattoos their clients wanted, even if the designs were considered overdone. “Although the silly Pinterest tattoos, like the bird silhouettes and infinity symbols are certainly overdone, I am happy to do them,” they said.
Another artist echoed this view, explaining that their priority was to give every customer the best possible result, regardless of the design. “I don't care how many feather-breaking-away-into-birds I've done, if one comes in today, I'll try (as always) to make it the best damn feather-breaking-away-into-birds I can do,” they said. “It's my job to respect my clients and give them the best of my abilities and experience no matter what the tattoo is.” They added: “I would never think that an American traditional rose tattoo is overdone, nor do I think an infinity symbol is. If someone likes it, I'm happy to tattoo it on them. I love tattooing. I can't imagine getting all jaded and hateful about it.”
