Sunderland's Horror Car Wash is returning for what organisers describe as its 'scariest year yet', with thousands of visitors already having put their nerves to the test. The unusual attraction transforms an ordinary car wash into a nightmarish drive-through experience, where terrifying characters, live scare actors and unexpected encounters await unsuspecting motorists.
Returning to Houghton-le-Spring
The event is set to return to Sunderland Live in Houghton-le-Spring this October. Having attracted thousands of visitors over the past few years, the Horror Car Wash has become an established part of the North East's Halloween entertainment scene, offering something completely different from traditional haunted houses and scare mazes.
Unlike conventional horror attractions, there's no walking through dark corridors or haunted buildings. Instead, the terrifying experience comes directly to the vehicle, creating an unusual shared experience for everyone inside.
An immersive in-car experience
The returning event gives horror fans the chance to experience an immersive world of sinister characters, atmospheric effects and terrifying surprises, all without leaving their vehicles. From groups of friends looking for a memorable night out to families seeking a different kind of Halloween adventure, the attraction has become a talking point among visitors looking for something out of the ordinary.
The Horror Car Wash returns to Sunderland Live from October 16 to November 1, 2026. Tickets can be bought online.
