Bluey fans 'broken hearted' as they vow to boycott 2027 movie over huge change

The Bluey Movie is set for a worldwide cinema release on 6 August 2027, but some fans of the popular children's show are unhappy with a huge change made from the TV series. Co-produced by Ludo Studio, BBC Studios, and Disney, the first official teaser trailer and poster were unveiled at Disney's D23 Expo before appearing online.

3D Animation Sparks Backlash

The feature-length film unfolds across a single, action-packed day in the life of the Heeler family. Mayhem and adventure ensue when a huge, unexpected surprise turns everything upside down for Bluey, Bingo, Chilli, and Bandit. The teaser depicts Bluey and Bingo in a frantic game of "Keepy Uppy". However, devoted fans have pointed out that the film uses 3D CG animation, a stark departure from the TV show's trademark 2D style.

Many viewers are far from pleased, claiming the production has 'ruined' Bluey, with some vowing to boycott the film altogether. Following the poster's release, one furious fan raged: "You had a 2D animated feature that could have shattered every box-office record. Instead, you reduced it to the level of all the run-of-the-mill productions that merely try to hook children's attention with bright colours and rapid-fire cuts."

Fans Demand Return to 2D

Another disgruntled viewer said: "Not going to lie - the animation puts me off instantly, Bluey is perfect as it is, why change it?" A third added: "Boo! Change it back to 2D; it is one the of main reasons we all love it! My kids said, 'What's wrong with Bluey?'. We were so excited and now I won't even bother taking my kids to this. We are looking for nostalgia and that beautiful sense play that Bluey is famous for. The 3D animation completely goes against what Bluey stands for."

As a fourth added: "Even my 5-year-old hates the new animation style. The reason you are making a movie is because everyone loves the show. Why would you change it?" One viewer claimed producers have "broken many hearts" with the film, while another urged: "You still have time to fix this mess."

Some Fans Remain Excited

Despite the wave of criticism, some Bluey fans remain eager to see the forthcoming film. One enthusiastic fan exclaimed: "So excited and happy," while another said they 'were sat'. BBC Studios and Disney Studios have been contacted for comment.
