The parents of a Welsh teenager hospitalised in China after a crash with a lorry during a charity bike ride have flown to his bedside, his friends have said.
Dyfan Hughes, 18, from Llangollen, North Wales, was taking part in a 6,000-mile bike ride from Wrexham to Thailand with two friends, Louis Dennis, 19, and James Thomas, 19, when the crash happened in China.
Charity ride in memory of friend's father
The trio had planned the ride to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Tony Edge, the father of their friend Harrison, who died after a heart attack in 2024.
After the crash, Dyfan was taken to hospital with head, neck and leg injuries and remains in a medical facility in China, according to North Wales Live.
Friends issue update
Louis and James issued an update on Dyfan and thanked everyone for their support. In a Facebook message, they said: "As you know, last week Dyf got into an unfortunate accident on the road with a lorry and we would just like to start by thanking everyone for their kind messages and donations, it really means a lot to us."
They added: "Now, the full extent of the injuries and the road to recovery are still unknown but we're going to try and update you as much as we can. Dyf's parents flew out straight away and have been by his bedside the whole time."
Support and donations
The friends said Dyfan "has been really well looked after in the hospital, he is bright and alert and in good spirits. That lad is as tough as they come and it's going to take more than a fight with a lorry to break him."
